What This Service Helps With

  • Writing and editing advocacy letters, including clemency, parole, mitigation, and general support letters.
  • Improving the clarity, organization, tone, and formatting of written materials prepared by individuals representing themselves.
  • Drafting clear, respectful emails and written requests to correctional facilities, agencies, and officials.
  • Organizing case information, timelines, records, correspondence, and supporting documents.
  • Helping individuals and families identify appropriate questions, contacts, resources, and possible next steps.
  • Providing communication support, including follow-up correspondence and phone calls when appropriate.
  • Researching publicly available programs, services, educational opportunities, reentry resources, and community support.
  • Assisting with family advocacy, reentry planning, educational goals, employment preparation, and other practical needs.
  • Supporting individuals and families who feel overwhelmed, unsure where to begin, or uncertain about how to communicate their concerns effectively.

You do not need to have everything organized or know exactly what to ask for before reaching out. Helping you identify the issue and determine a practical starting point is part of the support provided.

How Support Works

Support is available in two ways depending on what you need right now. Some people come with something written and need help improving it. Others need clarity on what to write, who to contact, and how to move forward. Both are common.

Advocacy Writing & Support (Project- Based)

This option is for help with written communication and advocacy tasks, including letters, emails, and related correspondence.

  • Quick Edit: Polish, tighten, and tone check an existing draft, including advocacy letters, written requests, or court documents. Edits are limited to clarity, organization, tone, grammar, and formatting. Legal analysis, legal strategy, and legal advice are not provided.
  • Full rewrite: Restructure and rewrite a rough draft, notes or outline into a clear and effective message with a stronger ask.
  • Advocacy Pack: For situations where you need help figuring out what to do and what to write. Including framing the issue, drafting the primary communication, and one revision round.
  • Individuals representing themselves remain fully responsible for the legal content and filing of their documents.

Navigation & Support Consultation

A 30-minute scheduled phone or Google Meet consultation to clarify what matters most right now. Helping you organize information, identify questions to consider, and prepare clear, professional communications.

Includes a short written summary after the session.

All sessions are scheduled in advance and require a brief intake summary. Before the call, you’ll be asked to share basic background information and what you’d like help with so the session can be focused and productive.
